Tyrannicide is the act of killing a tyrant. Tyrannicide has a long and distinguished history in the epic of mankind. Many Christian men of old wrote of such matters, debated and discussed such matters, and even acted in regard to such matters. This sermon examines the treatise written in 1556 by churchman John Ponet. The title of his treatise is – A Short Treatise of Political Power and of the True Obedience which Subjects Owe to Kings and Other Civil Governors with an Exhortation to all True Natural Englishmen. The sermon examines one chapter of the treatise which is entitled – Whether it be Lawful to Depose an Evil Governor and Kill a Tyrant.
